Atlanta Weather Forecast - Thursday

This spell of warm, dry weather means poor air quality this afternoon.  Even though the morning will remain cool and comfortable, the afternoon hours will heat up into the low 90s with sunny skies.  Humidity levels won't be oppressive yet, but it will be hot regardless.  A Code Orange air quality alert is in place today - meaning the air quality will be unhealthy for sensitive groups.  With Friday's weather being basically a repeat of today's sunshine and low 90s, expect that a smog alert will be issued for tomorrow, too.

Tropical moisture which has building across the western Gulf of Mexico all week will finally release and move east just in time for the holiday weekend. Look for clouds and humidity to increase on Saturday along with a chance of showers and t-showers by late afternoon and evening. Showers and t-showers will return both Sunday and Monday mainly in the afternoon and evening due to the heating of the day. Main threat with the storms will be lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds.  The hours of 1pm-10pm will be the favored time each day for scattered storms.  But, like most pop-up summertime storms, not everyone will get wet on any given day.  It is a good weekend to put your free FOX 5 Storm Team app to use!  You can check the latest radar images to track the holiday weekend storms.
