NEW YORK (AP) - Visitors to the World Trade Center area who didn't have invitations were hard-pressed to see or hear any of the anniversary ceremony.
Last year, streets all around were packed with thousands of people. They were contained within police barricades. But they were still able to catch some of the proceedings, with loudspeakers broadcasting the names as they were read.
This year, everything took place behind tall construction site fencing - hidden from the street and the general public.
It was a disappointment for Edie Suddath of Raleigh, N.C. She came to the neighborhood while visiting colleges with her daughter, 17-year-old Mary Grace.
They ended up standing across the street.
Suddath says it would have been nice for the people outside to feel like they were participating.
