WatchBrokers seized by the courts

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

After more than a year of complaints from upset customers, WatchBrokers has been seized by the courts, and the I-Team was there when it happened.

The Governor's Office of Consumer Protection had a receiver take over the property after management reneged on a previous deal. The deal was to pay back customers who were owed money on watches that were sold on their behalf.

WatchBrokers was the kind of place that had a $70,000 Christian Dior time piece in its cabinet. I-Team cameras captured rat traps, and expensive watches were not secured. The key to the security gates were out in the open, and the safes were unlocked.

Court-appointed receiver Chris Tierney says they also seized two bank accounts which they found to be empty.

"I think we'll be here for a while. The good part is, I think people can rest assured that if they had something here, it's now safe and protected and hopefully we will be contacting them over the next couple of weeks," said Tierney.

He says they found hundreds of watches inside the business, and a $2 million insurance policy has been issued on the watches.
