Old iPhones can still be useful

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

With the new iPhone 5 here, plenty of iPhone 4 and a few 3s are still out there. So what can you do with your old phone?

Some of those gadget folks who like to always have the best and the newest phone can sell their old iPhone because the old one is still worth money, but for those who hang on to our phones until they aren't worth much, you don't have to toss it.

You can still get a lot of use out of it.  Smart phones are a lot of things -- phones, mini computers, cameras, so wait before you shelve it.

- Give to family

- Watch Videos

- Use the alarm clock or stereo

- Give to charity (make sure you clear it of personal information before you do so)

If you keep it around, it can serve as a backup phone just in case something happens to the newer one. Plus, keep your old phones charged up as they can still be used to call 911 in emergencies.
