EUSTIS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
When the Walker Family, of Winter Park, relocated a trailer painted with the communist hammer and sickle and the words "Obama's Oppressive Regime," they thought their troubles would be behind them.
A year ago, the City of Winter Park required the family to move the trailer. So, they did just that. They brought it to a relative's house in Lake County, near Eustis. They say that, not long after that, vandals started "messing with them."
Jeff Walker said it all culminated in a destructive fire which happened just after midnight on Election Night.
"The whole place was engulfed in flames," he said. "All I see is everything empty and burned down to the ground."
He believes the actions were in response to the family's defiant, public, political stance.
"We speak our peace and speak out mind that's the American way," said John Walker. "But to burn somebody's home down, because of it, it's just uncalled for."
The home was unoccupied, had no power, and has been up for sale for about a year. John Walker said he had planned to move back into the home.
"We're all in this together," said Jeff. "We may have different opinions and everything, but to burn somebody's house down because they have a different opinion of who should be president, is absolutely wrong."
Just who would do this though is a mystery for now. Fire officials are investigating, calling it suspicious in nature.
