WINTER PARK, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
An Orlando man is in jail after officers with the Winter Park Police Department say he kidnapped and robbed two different women off Lee Road.
Officers on Wednesday arrested 28-year-old Farley Curry Jr. in Orlando. They believe he is responsible for both robberies which occurred last month, but have only arrested him for the first incident.
On October 12, a woman said she was approached by a man in the parking lot of an area business, was grabbed by the hair and forced to drive to an ATM to withdraw cash. During a second incident on October 25, another woman was carjacked and robbed at gunpoint.
Investigators say they were able to get DNA evidence from the clothing of the first victim. Winter Park Police Chief Brett Railey says Curry is familiar to law enforcement officers around the area.
"There were investigative leads that led us to this person prior to the DNA match. I don't feel comfortable right now because there's still an active case. But there was other evidence that led us to believe that this was the perpetrator. I think people who work along Lee Road can breathe a sigh of relief knowing this person is in jail, but never put their guard down."
Curry has a long criminal history dating back to 1999, including battery, battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of drugs. He face charges of kidnapping, carjacking, robbery and battery and is expected to appear before a judge on Thursday.
