Tripp Halstead has been gaining hundreds of friends since last Monday, but it was the friends looking down upon him that day when a tree branch fell on the 2-year-old that helped put him on a the road to recovery.
Lori Wall was working on the second floor office at Constance Manor on October 29 when she heard the sound of a crumbling tree followed by a woman screaming from the Winder Day Care Center next door. From her window, she could see the little boy unconscious on the playground under a portion of the 12-foot long tree branch. She yelled for her boss, Lee Perkins, a registered nurse. Springing to action, Lee ran down to the boy and started CPR.
Lori called 911 while Lee's husband, who works nearby, worked to remove the branch.
Since FOX 5 News first aired this story, thousands have come together to try to support Tripp Halstead and his family. Thursday, hundreds turned out to a fundraiser in Winder. Several other fundraisers are planning in the coming weeks.
