ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday for Downtown Orlando's latest residential project known as NORA.
NORA will be located in what has been billed as the North Quarter neighborhood on a 2.5-acre site at the corner of North Orange Avenue and Marks Street. The development plan for this project shows 246 one-and two-bedroom apartment homes in a 6-story mid-rise building.
The apartments will range in size from 691 to over 1,400 square feet. The developer says that eachhome will feature large, 8-foot windows, contemporary finishes, and Juliette orwalk-out balconies.
The project also features a 400 space parking garage, a large, interior, resort-style courtyard with pool and landscape features, and 10,000 square feet of neighborhood retail which will include a restaurant and health club.
NORA is anticipated to be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified project with plans for an extensivephotovoltaic system on the rooftop to convert sunlight into energy.
The company developing the project is GDC Properties, which also ownsthe new Aloft Orlando Downtown, which will occupy the old OUC headquarters next to City Hall.
NORA is expected to be complete in the Spring of 2014.
