BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
With the delivery of Atlantis to the KSC Visitors Complex, United Space Alliance says it is winding down its work on the close-out of the shuttle program.
The company has scheduled layoffs in four installments, with the latest happening on Friday. In all, 248 people in Florida will lose their jobs between now and March of 2013. Dozens more are being let go in Texas. The reduction represents about 13 percent of USA's current employees.
At the end of January, USA expects to employ around 1,900 people. Boeing and Lockheed continue discussions regarding USA's future and say it is too early to speculate how any actions related to future space endeavors will impact its workforce.
