ATLANTA -

Buying a smart phone this Christmas? Trying to navigate through the overwhelming choices can be hard, but it will be easier knowing how to buy one.

There are more choices than ever before, so when you start your shopping expect to answer a lot of questions. The more a good salesperson knows about you, the better they can pair you with the right smart phone.

Buying a mobile phone used to be easy because we only had to think of three things: making phone calls, texting, and sending emails. But now, smart phones do so much more.

For example, will you use the phone take pictures, stream video, and navigation?

Verizon Wireless staff will ask people what they do for a living. That will help guide them to whether the person might be using their phone more for work or for personal use. They also ask what they do with their leisure time and what they do on the weekends. They also will ask if the buyer has children.

One way to narrow the field down in selecting a smart phone is to decide on what operating system you want to use. The most popular are Apple, Android, and new this holiday season, Windows 8.

So, to make it even easier, you can choose from what phones are popular. The current top three are the Samsung GALAXY S III, the Windows 8 Phone, and of course the iPhone 5.

The GALAXY S III is one of the phones with the largest screen, so it makes web browsing and navigator easier.

The Windows phone is a very smooth operating system that incorporates what they call live tiles to navigate through it. They are continually updated through the day which keeps you posted on what your friends are doing at any given time.

The iPhone 5 has a much better camera and it has the more elegant form factor.
