The Minneapolis Fire Department is opening the application process for new firefighters for the first time since 2006 as it prepares for retirements.
The firefighter hiring process will get underway in January. The city received about 1,800 applications during the 2006 hiring campaign. Accepting applications is the first step in creating a new firefighter eligibility list that will be used to hire firefighters as positions open up.
The Minneapolis Fire Department will be looking for a diverse pool of applicants to fill future openings vacated by long-serving firefighters nearing retirement.
