SALEM, N.J. -

The tragedy in Newtown, Conn. impacted people around the world, but students in Salem, New Jersey have a truly personal connection.

The school district's choir director lost her mother in the shooting.

Now, students are making a big trip to offer some comfort.

Students such as 11-year-old Anthony Streeter wants the families who lost children in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting to know they are not alone.

Other students, such as 7-year-old Xavier Osorio has written two letters, including a "Merry Christmas, sorry for your loss" letter.

The students came up with the idea to write the letters because they too felt like they were grieving.

On Friday, 10 students and several adults are driving to Newtown to deliver them in person. The group also hopes to see Salem High School's choir teacher Maura Schwartz, who lost her mother, Mary Sherlach, in the shooting.

The group also plans to bring well wishes from the community, including a giant card along with letters with hands for healing to offer their support and love.
