CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Two men have been charged in the cold case death of a missing Cicero woman who was found strangled inside a trunk in south suburban Robbins.
Cook County Sheriff's police say James Murry, 35, of Toledo, Ohio, and Travon McDonald, 29, murdered 23-year-old Nayely Murry in August 2005. James Murry was Nayely Murry's estranged husband.
Sheriff's police cold case unit detectives were contacted by Cicero police in October to review the case. Detectives re-interviewed people familiar with the case, and also re-analyzed phone calls.
Based on that information, police arrested Murry at his Ohio home. After waiving extradition, he returned to Cook County on Friday. McDonald was arrested Dec. 20 after he was paroled from Logan Correctional Facility in downstate Lincoln, police said.
McDonald was serving time on an unrelated case for failing to report an accidental death, possession of a controlled substance and aggravated battery.
Both men are being ordered held without bail for the murder.
Police believe Nayely Murry was killed in Countryside before her body was placed in a trunk and then left in Robbins. Her body was found in the trunk of a Dodge Intrepid two days after her family reported her missing.
