Sergeant Jose Joaquin Suarez, 24, was found unresponsive in his barracks at Fort Hood just one day after Christmas. He was pronounced dead later on that day at the Carl R. Darnell Medical Center.
Suarez entered active service duty in 2006 as an information systems operator-analyst. He home address is listed as Millville, NJ.
Suarez was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
He is a decorated soldier who received two Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, NATO Medal and Combat Action Badge.
Circumstances surrounding the cause of death are under investigation.
