ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A deputy shot and injured an armed woman who barricaded herself in a Pine Hills pub. That's according to the Orange County Sheriffs Office.
Jeff Williamson, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriffs Office, said the incident began just before 1 p.m. on Saturday. The woman had just visited her veterinarian's office somewhere in Apopka and that's where she was told that she needed to put down her pet down. Williamson said this caused her to become emotionally distraught, even suicidal.
That's when someone from the vet's office called for help. Deputies spotted the woman's car in Pine Hills.
Investigators said she drove into a shopping center off Colonial Drive and North Hiawassee, that's where they said she ran into the "Golden Cue and Pub" and barricaded herself inside. We're told deputies spent almost an hour trying to coax the woman out of the bar.
She came outside of the bar a few times and authorities said at one point she even pointed a gun at deputies. Orange County Sheriff spokesperson, Jeff Williamson said a deputy then shot the woman in the chest and the shoulder.
She was taken to the hospital. Deputies told FOX 35 the woman is expected to survive.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting. The Orange County Sheriffs Office is also investigating the incident.
The deputy who shot the woman has been placed on one week's paid administrative leave.
