ESPN's Musburger has his eye on the game and girlfriend of Alabama QB

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Associated Press) -

Brent Musburger was mightily impressed by Alabama in its rout of Notre Dame in the BCS title game. The same could be said about the ESPN broadcaster and the girlfriend of Crimson Tide quarterback AJ McCarron.

During the network's Monday night telecast, the camera lingered early in the game on model Katherine Webb, who was in the stands with her mother.

Webb is Miss Alabama, and the 73-year-old Musburger remarked on this "beautiful woman," adding a "Whoa!" at another moment of admiration. Musburger also had this observation: "You quarterbacks, you get all the good-looking women."

With suspense at a minimum in the Tide's 42-14 romp over the Irish, Webb created a bit of online frenzy. She gained more than 90,000 Twitter followers throughout the game. Among them was Arizona Cardinals defensive linemen Darnell Docket, who tweeted his phone number to her.

ESPN issued an apology for Musburger's comments, saying they went too far.

For her part, Katherine Webb told TMZ she feels flattered, slightly embarrassed, and thinks what happened is the funniest thing ever.

Her father commented on the situation too saying, "On one hand you can look at it as being kind of the dirty old man but i'm used to this and I think if you really look at what he was trying to say, he was trying to be complimentary and I think they need to give Brent a break."
