ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Orlando Police are searching for a man and have another in custody, after they said one of the men attempted to shoot at police officer.
It was just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when two Orlando Police officers were responding to complaints about drug activity off Cinderlane Parkway, near Orange Blossom Trail. As they tried questioning two men, they said one started shooting at them.
"Two officers stepped out to talk to some individuals in the area, at that point immediately one individual pulled a firearm and fired several shots at our officers," said Sgt. Jim Young, with the Orlando Police Department.
Luckily, the officers were not injured; however, one of the suspects was shot in the shoulder and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
"The suspect who was shot was definitely identified as the one who had shot at the officers," said Sgt. Young. "The other suspect that was with him, that also fled on foot, is still an active scene, and they're still searching for him."
Keri Craig was on her way to church when she saw the action., "I saw all the cop cars were coming and blocking this entrance. They wouldn't let anyone in, there was cop cars here. Cop cars down every side street."
Officers placed the area on lockdown and searched through cars looking for the other suspect. Craig told us, "They wouldn't let anyone leave for people's safety and make sure they locked their doors behind them and made sure nobody got bit."
Officers said they recovered the gun involved in the shooting. The officers involved will be placed on paid administrative leave. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will also investigate the shooting.
