UIC among top schools for students seeking `sugar daddies`

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Everyone has heard the line "friends with benefits," but a number of Chicago college students are taking that phrase to a whole new level.

On the website SeekingArrangements.com, older men are called "the modern daddy" and the young beautiful ladies are known as the "goal-seeking sugar baby."

In most cases on that site, the babies are college students looking for some cash to get their school tuition paid. The daddies are willing to dish it out as long as they get when they're looking for.

It sounds simple, but some college students say it sounds like the world's oldest profession has a new address.

Log onto SeekingArrangements.com and this line says it all: "Mutually beneficial relationships and mutually beneficial arrangements."

"Maybe a sugar daddy is looking for someone to go to special events with---someone to meet once a month someone to take on trips around the world---however a woman is looking for someone who can be her mentor," says Leroy Velasquez of SeekingArrangements.com. "Someone who can help her network in the world and someone who can help her with financial stability."

"That's sad. My parents would kill me," one University of Illinois student said.

Another student told our cameras that she works "and my parents help me out."

FOX 32 showed students the site after a survey conducted shows that more than 100 of their fellow classmates have signed up for the sites' membership, looking for mature men to pay their tuition.

Classes and room and board cost about $30,000 at the University of Illinois.

The site shows that each young lady on "Seeking Arrangements" receives on average $1,000 to $3,000 a month, while others are asking for $10,000 to $20,000, which the sugar daddies are willing to pay.

The creators who are based in Las Vegas say that it's adult fun and nothing else.

"The key difference here is a relationship," Velasquez explains. "An escort or prostitution is conducting a sexual transaction which black and white is money in exchange for sex."

The owners couldn't say how many male students have signed up on the site from Chicago and they didn't have numbers available on how many women are willing to be "sugar mamas."

The site has been around for years though. The owners say they tell everyone when they sign up that--like any other dating site--if you meet some and it doesn't feel comfortable, you should get out.

FOX 32's Darlene Hill called some attorneys who say the process is legal because it's done between two consenting adults.
