NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
James L. Smith faced a Volusia County judge Thursday afternoon on charges of sexual battery with deadly force, false imprisonment, possession of a schedule IV substance and aggravated battery.
According to police, New Smyrna Beach officers, along with other assisting agencies, responded to the 3600 block of Marisol Court to reports of a sexual battery at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Authorities took the woman to Halifax Health Medical Center after she received broken bones in her face and two black eyes.
