NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Contestants in the Windy City blew away the judges with some impressive performances.

It was an emotional end to the two-night premiere of season 12 of American Idol.

Of the 9,000 contestants that turned out, a handful made a big impression on judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson.

A 21-year-old contestant who was born in Cuba and suffers from a severe stutter performed 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' to a stunned judging panel. The singer's stutter disappeared while he sang.

The auditions rounds move to Charlotte, North Carolina next week sending more contestants to sunny California.
