Identity of father and 3 children killed in Lake County crash revealed
GROVELAND, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol have released the name of a father and three children killed in a horrific accident in Lake County Friday night. The fatal accident claimed the lives of 41-year-old Wilfredo Malave, 9-year-old Zion, 7-year-old Phoenix and 2-year-old Avaya, all of Lakeland.
Wilfredo Malave was driving his 2009 Mercedes when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, according to an FHP spokesperson. Troopers and emergency crews responded to the scene at State Road 33 and Groveland Airport Road, in Lake County, just before 7 p.m. Friday.
When a crew with the Lake-Sumter Emergency Medical Services arrived, they discovered that the father and 9-year-old Zion were pronounced dead at the scene. The two other children later died at Southlake Hospital.
FHP is still trying to determine the cause of the accident. All they know at this time is that the car lost control and left the road way.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 26, at 10 a.m. at Victory Church in Lakeland. The church is located at1401 Griffin Road.
