NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Songs filled Riverside Church in Morningside Heights Sunday morning as singers kicked-off a day of word and celebration celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The renowned church dedicated its morning service in memory of the late Civil Rights leader and was the first event in a daylong celebration.

Dr. King preached from The Riverside Church's pulpit on many occasions, including his historic "Beyond Vietnam" speech denouncing the Vietnam War on April 4, 1967. The speech was given exactly one year before he was assassinated.
