CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
On Monday's Chat Room, Sun-Times Splash Editor Susanna Negovan and Lifestyle Consultant Rochelle Trotter discussed President Obama's second inauguration.
Think back to four years ago. Ee had fallen into a deep recession, had a collapsing auto industry, a shaky banking industry, a collapsing stock market and were fully engaged in two wars. How far have we come?
Susanna thinks while we have made some progress, the high level of support for the President has definitely waned. His approval ratings aren't anywhere near where they were in 2008 and the base of support for this inauguration is definitely down as evidenced by the lack of festivities planned vs. 2008.
Rochelle thinks the President has made progress against three of his five big 2008 campaign initiatives: universal healthcare, ending the war in Iraq, and killing Bin Laden. The two which yet remain to be tackled are plans for global warming reduction and comprehensive immigration reform. She feels he failed in the areas of housing - the foreclosure fund, and job creation.
In his next term, Susanna hopes that the President will focus on the economy as it appears gun control has taken center stage and is taking attention away from the real issues. Rochelle would like to see a bipartisan approach from the President to work on effective economic development mainly job creation.
