Snow, Cold Temperatures Cause Several Accidents On PA Roads

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Icy roads from Monday night's brief snowfall combined with the cold temperatures have led to several accidents along Pennsylvania roads.

Just before 9 p.m., PennDOT announced it had closed US 202 northbound at Chesterbrook Boulevard to Devon Park Drive due to the weather. Nearly an hour later, PennDOT crews were able to reopen the road.

Interstate-476 north was closed just before 10 p.m. between I-76 and Conshohocken due to icy conditions.

Several other roads were closed due to accidents, including US 1 northbound at PA 32 to the New Jersey line. PennDOT says the area reopened to traffic just before 10 p.m.

US 202 north was also closed at 4th Street and Washington Avenue due to a crash.

At 9:45 p.m., PennDOT closed Rt. 309 north at Easton Road to the Pennsylvania Turnpike due to a crash.

Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
