CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

There's reason to believe Beyonce lip-synced the National Anthem at Monday's presidential inauguration.

Is there anything wrong with that?

News outlets from around the world reported Tuesday that they talked with a spokeswoman for the U.S. Marine band, who said that at the last minute, the band got word Beyonce would use a recording of her voice rather than sing live.

Some media reported it was unclear whose decision it was to use the recording. Others said the spokeswoman told them Beyonce made the decision.

Either way, the band now seems to be backtracking a bit. When FOX 32 News reached out to the band, they said the band's music during the National Anthem was a recording, but they do not know if Beyonce's performance was live or not.

It's standard practice for all inauguration musicians to pre-record their songs and have them on standby.

Beyonce's backup tape was made at a Marine Corps studio on Sunday and photos of the session were posted on her Instagram page.

Beyonce has not commented about her alleged use of the tape. The Marine band says its reason for using a recording was that band members and Beyonce had no chance to rehearse together before the inauguration.

As for Beyonce's current whereabouts, she also posted a shot of her on Tuesday at a restaurant in New Orleans.

Among the mysteries about what happened, one of the most intriguing is about the moment at the height of the anthem when Beyonce removed her earpiece. People figured she was getting feedback. But the question now is, was the move just for show?

At President Obama's first inauguration, there was "string-syncing." The renowned musicians Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman used a recording in 2008. There were concerns that the extreme cold would crack the instruments, break the strings, or just negatively affect the overall sound.

Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor each are said to have confirmed their inauguration singing was live.
