ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
If you're a runner, cyclist or even a swimmer, you can find an app that will allow you to track and share your experiences with other like-minded athletes. And now, Nicholas Mohnacky is working on the same for surfers.
"It's something that isn't really unique as a business model, but for the surfing community, there is really nothing else like it," said Mohnacky, a South Florida surfer who is currently developing Surfr App.
He said the idea came up when he and his friends were reflecting on past surfing sessions.
"We realized that it's difficult to remember the details of our time in the water. Like what date it was, the swell, who we surfed with, what the conditions were."
The app will allow users to log surfing sessions and check in at the beach. It will then automatically pull reports including wave height , swell conditions, wind speed and direction, and save it to your profile timeline. You can also tag your friends.
"It's sort of like a combination of a surf report and Facebook and Instagram and Foursquare -- so really, it's like a compilation of all those," said Mohnacky.
Mohnacky, of Pixil Agency in West Palm, has taken to Kickstarter to raise money for his project. He is seeking to generate $50,000 to build the free app.
