Jose Baez offers his review of 'Prosecuting Casey Anthony'

Posted: Updated:

"Prosecuting Casey Anthony" hit the airwaves Saturday night.  The LIFETIME Network's made-for-TV movie is based on prosecutor Jeff Ashton's book.   One of the people who couldn't wait to see it is Ashton's former adversary, Jose Baez.

"I TiVo'd it," said the attorney who represented Casey Ant honey.  "I came home and got to watch it. It was pretty funny."

So what did he think?

"I'm the worst person to ask about this, because I lived it. I found myself nitpicking, saying I didn't say that, I didn't do that, or that didn't happen.  But taking a step back, I think it was a fair interpretation of the prosecutions version of events," said Baez.

He said there was no way for this movie to tell the whole story.  "To understand that whole case and all of the characters, you really have to be on the inside and to do that, you really have to be a member of the defense."

Jeff Ashton was played by Hollywood hunk, Rob Lowe.  Baez was played by "The Office" star Oscar Nuñez.

When asked what it was like seeing someone else portray him on the small screen, Baez responded, "It's a little weird."  But as for the performance, Baez said of Nuñez, "I thought he did a good job in the movie."  He was much more critical of Rob Lowe.  "I don't think he did Jeff any justice.  Jeff is a far better lawyer than Rob Lowe portrayed him, so he'd better not quit his day job!"

Speaking of day jobs, Baez announced on Wednesday that the he has merged his law firm with The Trial Professionals, based out of Orlando.  He said it will allow him to, "work personal injury cases, worker's compensation, wrongful death cases."

He said he has already been doing that on a national level.  Right now, he's representing  a couple of families of victims from the theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado.  By joining forces with an established firm, he says he can now try those types of cases here in Florida.

In case you're wondering about where he stands with the woman who made him famous, Casey Anthony, he said, "Her case was resolved.  We won and she's moved on, and so have I."   He went on to say that that is the same relationship he has with all of his former clients.  He also said that, if Casey Anthony ever needs anything, he's there for her.
