A 40-year-old Urbana man is being held without bail after he was charged earlier this week with the murder of a man on the West Side last year.
Quinn Holmes was arrested Thursday without incident at his home in the 300 block of West Park Street in Urbana by Chicago Police detectives, according to a release.
Detectives transported him back to Chicago to appear before a judge on a first-degree murder charge for the fatal afternoon shooting of a 21-year-old man in the Garfield Park neighborhood on July 2, 2012, authorities said.
Authorities say Holmes was riding in the back seat of Dodge Durango when he and several others spotted 21-year-old James Thompson walking down the street near his home.
The driver pulled in front of the 21-year-old man, then Holmes got out and exchanged words with Thompson before shooting him once in the chest, prosecutors said in court Saturday.
Thompson, of the of the 4300 block of West Gladys Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he died several hours later, according to prosecutors and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Prosecutors say Holmes has a number of convictions for drug dealing and weapons possession.
In 2007 he was sentenced to three years for drug possession. In 2002 he was sentenced to two years in prison for unlawful use of a weapon. He was also found guilty of drug-related offenses in 1999 and 1995, prosecutors said.
