Two guards at Hays State Prison have been cleared to go back to duty after being assaulted by inmates at the facility early Sunday morning.
Georgia Department of Corrections spokesperson Gwendolyn Hogan tells FOX 5 News that the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The two corrections officers were taken to an area hospital where they were treated and released with minor injuries.
She says the two were back at work Sunday afternoon.
This is the third known violent incident at the prison within the past month. Two inmates were killed in fights within that time. The first was December 26 and the second was January 18.
