27th anniversary of Challenger explosion

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

On Monday, 27 years ago to the day, the space shuttle "Challenger" exploded just 73-seconds after lift-off.

All seven crew members were killed, including school teacher, Christa McAuliffe.

She had been chosen to be the first private American citizen in space.

The explosion was eventually traced to the cold weather, which froze an O-ring in the shuttle's right solid rocket booster, causing it to malfunction.
