CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Boston authorities will be holding off on executing an arrest warrant and extraditing Theo Epstein's alleged stalker to Chicago until her mental health improves, attorneys said in court Tuesday.
Cook County prosecutors issued the warrant earlier this month when they learned Kathleen Kearney had stopped charging her court ordered GPS device and was found acting erratically outside a church and school parking lot on the East Coast.
Kearney, 45, has since been committed at a hospital in Boston because she is not "capable of taking care of herself," her attorney Michael O'Donnell told Judge Michael Brown.
The Harvard graduate has been hospitalized due to a "medication issue," and it could take her up to six months for her to be treated, O'Donnell said.
Brown told O'Donnell and prosecutor Frank Marek that he will be continually gauging the situation and asked the lawyers to give him an update on Feb. 13.
Last summer, Kearney, of Canton, Mass., allegedly turned up at the Lake View home of the Cubs president bearing gifts for his son.
Epstein's wife asked Kearney to leave and then called police and Cubs security, authorities said.
Kearney left, but then drove around the block, passed Wrigley Field and then returned to the block, where she saw Theo Epstein walking home and called out to get his attention, prosecutors said.
Epstein eventually called police and when Kearney was arrested in her rented Mustang, she allegedly told detectives she was trying to invite Epstein to attend church with her.
Kearney has been out on bond since she was charged with stalking following her July 12 arrest.
Previously, Kearney also had run-ins with Epstein when he was the general manager of the Red Sox, once trying to hand-deliver a "Burger King" meal to him at Fenway Park, authorities said.
