CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
The search for more victims of serial killer John Wayne Gacy has turned up a possible connection to the 1975 murders of two Michigan boys.
During a speech to the City Club of Chicago Tuesday, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart revealed that investigators believe Gacy may have been in the vicinity of the Michigan crimes when they were committed.
Dart's office was contacted by Michigan authorities after Gacy's DNA was put into a national database.
"We had found records that put him in that general area at about the same general time. We have a ways to go on it still, but it was startling. They called me literally hours after we put it in the database, because they saw similarities themselves," Dart said.
Gacy killed 34 men between 1972 and his arrest in 1978. He was executed in 1994.
