CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
A 2-11 alarm fire was reported at 230 E. Ontario at 11:28 a.m. Friday. Heavy smoke was seen on the upper floors, but the fire was struck out by noon.
Chicago Fire spokesman Larry Langford told FOX 32 News that the fire was contained to one unit on the 7th floor, and that one person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition. He believed that person's injuries were minor.
At least five ambulances were called to the scene after an EMS plan I was called.
Firefighters asked unaffected residents to stay inside their apartments. There are 144 units in the 27 story building. The garage was used as a warming area for those that were evacuated.
Firefighters went through every floor after the fire was extinguished, conducting well-being searches.
According to dispatch reports, a couple streets around the scene of the fire were filled with fire equipment and traffic was backed up in the area. The CTA's No. 3, 66, and 127 buses were rerouted around the scene as fire crews fought the blaze and as they wrapped up their efforts, a CTA spokeswoman said.
