The Georgia Secretary of State says his office is continuing to investigate election problems in Fulton County. The state is looking into more than 100 voter complaints stemming the county's management of last fall's general election.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp says he's very concerned about testimony that some Fulton County voting records were altered after the November election.
The State Election Board conducted a meeting Thursday to look into complaints of long voting delays and other problems in Fulton.
"There is testimony on documents that were altered after they'd been signed by poll workers. There were allegations, that someone, two or three people that voted that registered after the deadline, so they legally were ineligible to cast a ballot," Kemp said.
The Secretary of State has labeled Election Day in Fulton a "debacle."
"It's embarrassing and it's not good and people are not confident in the process. And that's the worst thing that you can have happen in an election," Kemp said.
But Fulton County interim Elections Director Sharon Mitchell disputes suggestions that information had been entered on records illegally.
"That was not the case. We have done a review of those documents and we certainly have a proper explanation for those documents which has been provided to the full board," Mitchell said.
Mitchell has continued to defend the county's management of the election.
"I can assure all voters that no criminal activity, tampering with documents or any source of fraud occurred with our process in Fulton County," Mitchell said.
Kemp says his office is still going through documents and could send evidence to the state attorney general if there are indications that the county broke state laws.
Kemp says a formal hearing will take place before a decision is made on state action against Fulton County.
