NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A K-9 team in training ended up putting in some unexpected real-world police work earlier this week when the police dog sniffed out 79 marijuana plants growing in a field during a training exercise.
The Volusia Bureau of Investigation (VBI) was called out to investigate the find, linking the drugs to a New Smyrna Beach man, 38-year-old Anthony Parrish, who was charged with possession and manufacture of marijuana. Parrish was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach on $3,000 bond.
The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon, as a group of K-9s and their police handlers were training with a private K-9 training facility out of New Smyrna Beach.
