BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A Central Florida college is beefing up safety on campus, as deputies are about to become part of the landscape.
Brevard Community College has 35,000 students, faculty and staff, and it's growing. Campus security is the responsibility of 48 active officers. Not long after BCC's new president john Richey took over, he decided the college needed to review it's security plan.
"One of the things he did pro-actively is reach out to the lawn enforcement in Brevard county about what we could do collectively to increase security at our four campuses," said John Glisch with BCC.
The plan calls for Brevard County Sheriff's Office substations on each campus, to give deputies a physical presence at the college. They will conduct comprehensive security reviews of each campus and it's layout. The Sheriff's Office will also coordinate its crisis response training exercises with college officials.
