DALLAS, Ga. -
A Paulding County Sheriff's Office lieutenant lost her home and all of her belongings in a fire a few weeks ago. Now, the community she has worked for over the past 15 years is stepping up to work for her.
Lt. Kathy Etheridge's husband called 911 during the early morning hours of January 31 to report the fire. By the time firefighters were able to get the flames under control, their Polk County home was nearly in ruins. The family lost everything except the patrol car she drove to work that day and the clothes they were wearing. Clothing, heirlooms, and Etheridge's personal vehicle were completely destroyed.
Community members have stepped up to help the family out. On Monday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q will be hosting a special dinner at the Paulding County Senior Center. The proceeds from the event will go to the Etheridges. They are asking for a donation of $15 per person.
Organizers say that fundraisers like this are just the way things are in Paulding County, with neighbor helping neighbor.
