TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A fund that has helped victims of the Jan. 8, 2011 mass shooting in Tucson is shutting down now that Jared Loughner's criminal case is over and the fund's work is concluding.
According to Arizona Daily Star, the Tucson Together Fund took in $520,000 of donations and distributed all but $50,000 to victims and their families.
The $50,000 has been set aside for any future claims from victims of the 2011 shooting.
Victims filed claims for expenses such as lost wages and funeral costs.
Six people were killed in the shooting at a Safeway store's parking lot. The wounded included former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
Loughner has been sentenced to live in prison without parole, and fund board Chairman Bill Carnegie says donations and claims are drying up.
