PHILADELPHIA -

A sink hole measuring 5 feet in diameter and at least 3 feet deep has sat in front of the Olney home of Carmen Perez for a week.

Perez says last week, a white van rolled over the area on the 200 block of East Wellens Street and suddenly it all just caved in.

Perez tells FOX 29 the Philadelphia Water Department was out the very next day to make repairs but she says they never came back to finish the job.

Over the past six days, Perez says the hole kept getting bigger and deeper. Cars now maneuver slowly around it as they crawl down the block.

Block captains tell FOX 29 they've called the city but haven't been able to get any help.

For neighbors, it's not just an eyesore but also a dangerous hole in the street.

FOX 29's Bruce Gordon called the water department around 12 p.m. Monday and within two hours a crew was back at the scene to install a huge metal plate to cover the hole.

Perez was there to watch.

"I'm glad that it's fixed. I'm glad, thank you!" she said.
