Study: We can't let go of our phones

Posted: Updated:

Here's a situation you may have encountered. You are home, and have to get a message to your son. You pick up your phone and call him, even though he is also in the home. Are you guilty of doing this?

If so, you are not alone. A study by the Daily Mail says that 45 percent of people send text messages or call the person in the next room.

According to the study, 75 percent of us would struggle if we had to go one day without our electronic toys such as phones, laptops, or music players. The study also found that 1 in 5 people prefer to speak on the phone or on social media such as Facebook and Twitter rather than face-to-face!

It says the rise in portable devices has created a generation that has trouble switching off, with 25 percent of us checking emails and messages in bed, and 1 in 10 checking messages in the bathroom.

Have you used your phone to call a family member when you are both home? Post your comments on our FOX 5 Atlanta Facebook page, or tweet us @GoodDayAtlanta.
