ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. -

The rainy and windy conditions wreaked havoc on area roads on Tuesday. On Interstate 20 near Conyers, a freak accident caused a tree to fall on top of a moving truck, killing the driver inside.

The Rockdale County Sheriff's Office says 60-year-old Roy Arndt was driving a 1998 Tacoma Toyota truck when the incident happened just past Sigman Road at around 6:30 a.m.

"Well, my first reaction was this poor guy was on his way to work to make a living for perhaps himself or maybe even the family member, and such a tragedy had to happen to him this early in the morning. We believe it's weather related. We had a couple of other reports of trees down in the county. We've addressed those issues," said Sheriff Eric Levett of the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say the tree blocked the road, and several more wrecks occurred. There were no injuries in connection with those wrecks.

All westbound lanes of Interstate 20 were blocked for over two hours while crews investigated the accident, and cleaned up debris. The lanes were reopened at around 9 a.m.
