NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge said that a jury can hear older evidence at the conspiracy trial of a New York City police officer accused of plotting to kill and eat women.

Prosecutors had asked the judge to allow evidence they say shows the alleged plot goes back to 2011.

The judge granted the government's request before testimony was to resume on Wednesday in a Manhattan courtroom.

Jurors were expected to hear more about more ghoulish online exchanges that authorities contend prove Officer Gilberto Valle, 28, intended to kill and eat women.

No women were physically harmed, and defense lawyers say it was all Internet fantasy.

If convicted, Valle could face life in prison.
