Jevon Avis, 31, was arrested Tuesday on allegations that he took money from Girl Scouts in January.
TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. -
The man accused of robbing a group of Girl Scouts who were selling cookies at a Pathmark store in January was arrested.
Tredyffrin Township Police say they identified their suspect as 31-year-old Jevon Michael Avis. Police say he was arrested Tuesday night by law enforcement in Cumberland County after investigators connected him to a rash of purse snatchings and thefts.
Avis is accused of approaching a Girl Scout troop at a Tredyffrin Pathmark Store on the 400 block of W. Swedesford Road back on January 20 and taking an unknown amount of cash from a plastic container that had money meant for U.S. troops.
It was the quick action of a Girl Scout who police say prevented Avis from taking money from the sales of Girl Scout cookies.
In February, police say officers responded to a report of retail theft at an Acme in Paoli, where more than $100 worth of merchandise was stolen. The suspect in the theft, police say, left the store but was confronted by employees. The man then left the items and drove off.
Less than a week later, on February 25, police say they responded to a purse snatching at the Pathmark store. It was then that police say they identified the suspect as Avis.
Police say Avis was arraigned in court on theft related charges. According to investigators, Avis confessed to additional crimes, including the robbery of the Girl Scouts.
