MACON, Ga. (AP) - Tynice Martin scored 15 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead Southwest DeKalb to a 56-52 win over rival Miller Grove Friday in the GHSA Class 5A girls state championship game.
The Panthers (24-8) won their fourth state championship in school history, with all coming in the past six years.
Katie Hunt scored 15 points and Tashi Thompson added 14 for Miller Grove.
Southwest DeKalb led by 10 points with 42 seconds left to play, but Hunt scored five points in two seconds of game clock to cut the deficit in half. Shaquanda Durden made a layup to cut the Panthers lead to three points with 17 seconds left, but Martin made a free throw with two seconds left to make it a two-possession game.
Miller Grove had three wins over Southwest DeKalb in the regular season, but the Panthers beat their rivals in the Region 6A championship game.
