A 17-year-old student at the De La Salle in Towne school had a loaded gun with him but was stopped at a school metal detector Monday morning, police said.
According to police, the student set off the detector in the front of the school around 9 a.m.
The teenager was taken into police custody.
FOX 29's Stephanie Salvatore reports no other searches were made inside the school.
The school's director, Charles Gaus, tells FOX 29 the school day went on as usual after the student was taken away by police.
"I think today with the amount of trauma that kids are feeling in the community and issues that are going on in the community at large, you feel it's important to have the metal detector there," Gaus said.
Gaus says the school focuses on safety and felt that its process worked Monday morning.
Pending any charges, the status of the student at the school is not certain.
