A 10-year-old Polk County boy is in critical condition after authorities say he was shot in the head by a BB gun while playing with his teen brother.
The Sheriff's Office said the incident happened Wednesday evening at the boys' home in Frostproof.
Detectives say the boys were playing outside, shooting at targets with BB guns, while their mother and her boyfriend were inside. At some point, the 13-year-old pointed his gun at his younger brother, who was struck in the head at close range.
The younger boy was airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, where he was in critical condition Thursday.
An investigation is ongoing, but deputies say the shooting appears to be accidental.
