A man got away with an unknown amount of cash after robbing a Loop bank branch shortly before noon on Thursday.
The robbery took place at a bank branch in the 100 block of South Michigan Avenue about 11:50 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. The target was a Citibank branch, according to FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde.
The man passed a note to a teller and implied he had a weapon, then fled on foot after getting an unknown amount of cash. He did not show a weapon, police and the FBI said.
The robber was described as a black man 40-45, about 5-foot-6 with a dark complexion, wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and dark hat; and carrying a black messenger bag. He was not in custody as of early Thursday afternoon, Estrada said.

There have been at least 31 bank robberies in the Chicago area this year, according to the FBI. Last year there were 218.
