A 15-year-old boy arrested on Wednesday after allegedly stealing a police car is a suspect in multiple carjackings in the metro area, police says.
The teen allegedly stole an East Point police car and then held a SWAT team at bay for more than four hours.
Coweta investigators say the teen is a suspect in a Chevron gas station carjacking. Authorities say last Friday, carjackers assaulted a woman pumping gas at a Chevron station in Coweta County.
The gunman pressed the muzzle against the woman's head and threatened to shoot her if she screamed.
Investigators believe that the 15-year-old was one of four teens responsible for multiple carjackings in Atlanta, Fulton County, DeKalb County, East Point and Coweta County. One of the suspects is 14, according to police.
"These young suspects have been going around the south Atlanta area, including Coweta County, doing robberies and carjackings, burglaries and just threatening individuals, robbing them, breaking into their home and stealing guns, whatever," said Lt. Col. James Yarborough of the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.
Police said that the teens appear to be stealing the cars for joyrides. In one case, they stole one woman's car at gunpoint, drove it around and then abandoned it and stole another car in the same day.
