Fundraiser to benefit the Motor City Irish Dance Company March 22

Posted: Updated:

Just in time for St. Patrick's Day, the Motor City Irish Dance Company performs on Fox 2, showing off their dedicated Irish dancers. A fundraiser event is coming up next Friday to benefit the school due to their studio burning down recently.

The Motor City Irish Dance Company is part of the Ealaín Céime Irish Dance School, located in Rochester Hills. Dancers are well trained in group choreography for performance. The Motor City Irish Dance Company is a special put on by the school, made up of amateur professional and professional Irish step dancers. The team is versatile and can perform alongside many types of Celtic bands from traditional to Celtic rock.

The school is hosting a fundraiser, the first annual 'Echoes of Ireland' event on Friday, March 22 from 6:30 p.m. - 12 a.m.

"It's a fundraiser to raise funds for our school, we recently just lost our studio in a fire, so we're trying to raise funds to get ourselves back in and we're also raising funds for the Lymphoma Society, Megan's father passed away last year," said Kimberly Mikulski, Motor City Irish Dance Company.

The event takes place at King's Court Castle at Canterbury Village. The fundraiser includes dinner, drinks, live dance performances, a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, in memory of Megan's dad. Megan is one of the dancers that performed on Fox 2 during The Nine. Megan and her mom are members of the Motor City Irish Dance Company. Tickets to the event can be purchased online.

Canterbury Village is located at 2369 Joslyn Ct., in Orion Twp.

Those interested in Irish dance must audition before being accepted into the company. There is currently a wait list for the Motor City Irish Dance Company, but other classes and specials are available. To see available classes, ranging from younger and beginning students to professionals, check out the Ealaín Céime Irish Dance School online or call (248) 805-1232.
