A man who turned up at a North Carolina hospital with a gunshot wound has confessed to the killing of a woman whose body was found in an Orlando apartment Sunday night, deputies say.
Ryan Doyle, 23, has been booked into a Henderson County, N.C., detention facility on no bond in connection with the murder of Lora Fischer, 25.
Authorities said Doyle was Fischer's new boyfriend, and the couple had been dating for only two weeks.
Early Monday, Henderson County Sheriff's detectives were called to a Fletcher, N.C., hospital to investigate a man who had walked in with a gunshot wound.
During an interview with investigators, Doyle confessed to Fischer's murder, they said.
They also determined that while traveling from Orlando to Kentucky to visit family, Doyle had somehow shot himself in the arm in Spartanburg County, S.C., using the weapon thought to have been used to kill Fisher, and threw out the gun there.
A gun was recovered in South Carolina, authorities said Tuesday.
Orlando Police found Fisher's body at the Village Park Apartments in the Rosemont area after being called out for a well-being check.
Doyle is expected to be extradited back to Orlando later this week.
